NCCLS Installs Newly Elected Officers: Thomas L. Hearn, Ph.D.; Donna M. Meyer, Ph.D.; Robert Habig, Ph.D.; Wayne Brinster; and Klaus Stinshoff, Dr.rer.nat. Thomas L. Hearn, Ph.D. Installed as NCCLS President At the annual NCCLS Leadership Conference held 18-20 March 2004, Thomas L. Hearn, Ph.D. was installed as NCCLS President for a two-year term. During his recently completed two-year term as President Elect, Dr. Hearn made significant contributions to NCCLS. As President Elect, he had overall management responsibility for coordinating NCCLS’s standards-development process. NCCLS will continue to benefit from Dr. Hearn’s extensive laboratory and management experience. Read the complete press release. Donna M. Meyer, Ph.D. Recognized for Distinguished Service and Leadership as NCCLS President Donna M. Meyer, Ph.D. completed her two-year term as NCCLS President at the annual NCCLS Leadership Conference held 18-20 March 2004. Dr. Meyer is recognized for her distinguished service and leadership focused on quality, partnership, harmonization, and strategic planning as NCCLS President for the past two years, and as a member of the Board of Directors since 1991. Her outstanding leadership enabled NCCLS to expand and enhance its standards process and its value to those worldwide who benefit from global consensus healthcare standards and guidelines. As President, Dr. Meyer focused on directing the organization to achieve its strategic priorities: to lead the way in producing global and harmonized standards; to maximize relationships with member organizations; and to promote a sense of cohesiveness in the development of standards, guidelines, and best practices. Read the complete press release. Robert L. Habig, Ph.D. Installed as NCCLS President Elect Robert L. Habig, Ph.D. was installed for a two-year term as NCCLS President Elect at the annual NCCLS Leadership Conference held 18-20 March 2004. In addition, Dr. Habig will serve as a member of NCCLS’s Executive Committee and as Chairholder of both the Nominating Committee and Chairholders Council. Wayne Brinster Installed as NCCLS Secretary Wayne Brinster was installed for a three-year term as NCCLS Secretary at the annual NCCLS Leadership Conference held 18-20 March 2004. In addition, Mr. Brinster will serve on NCCLS’s Executive Committee and will continue to participate as a member of the Membership and Marketing Committee of the Board. Read the complete press release. Klaus E. Stinshoff, Dr.rer.nat. to Serve on NCCLS Board of Directors Dr. Thomas L. Hearn, NCCLS President, has appointed Klaus E. Stinshoff, Dr.rer.nat. to the NCCLS Board of Directors. Dr. Stinshoff was appointed at the annual NCCLS Leadership Conference, held 18-20 March 2004, to fill the remaining two years of an unexpired term on the Board. Dr. Stinsoff will participate as a member of the Board’s Quality and Education Committee. Read the complete press release. NCCLS Announces Availability of New NCCLS Document on Measurement of Free Thyroid Hormones NCCLS document C45-P - Measurement of Free Thyroid Hormones; Proposed Guideline is a guideline for free (nonprotein-bound) thyroid hormone (FTH) testing. The primary audience for this publication is personnel responsible for the development, manufacture, approval, and/or use of FTH measurement procedures. The guideline briefly discusses FTH measurement procedures with respect to design, factors confounding measurements, and specimen choice and collection, and addresses existing problems in definitions and specific nomenclature. NCCLS Announces Availability of New NCCLS Document on Protocols for Determination of Limits of Detection and Limits of Quantitation NCCLS document EP17-P - Protocols for Determination of Limits of Detection and Limits of Quantitation; Proposed Guideline provides protocols for determining the lower limit of detection of clinical laboratory methods, for verifying claimed limits, and for the proper use and interpretation of these limits.
