With over 2.6 million visits in 2003, Lab Tests Online is growing at a rapid pace. In addition to the significant website traffic, Lab Tests Online continues to receive accolades, most notably, the 2003 American Society of Association Executives Summit Award given to programs that significantly “enhance American society”; and the 2003 eHealthcare Leadership Program Gold Award for Best Health/Healthcare Content. In addition, Lab Tests Online is cited in many national publications. In the March 2004 issue of Prevention, a magazine with a subscription base of more than 3 million readers, Lab Tests Online is listed under the title “Smartest Health Sites on the Web.” Established by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), the website is a product of a collaboration of professional societies and industry organizations representing the laboratory community and medical-testing field, including NCCLS. NCCLS has been serving as collaborating partner with Lab Tests Online since joining in August 2002. In this role, John J. Zlockie, Senior Assistant Executive Director for Standards, NCCLS, maintains a position on the Lab Tests Online Editorial Board, and helps review the material found on the site. George Linzer, Executive Producer for Lab Tests Online says, “Lab Tests Online’s success is attributable to the societies and their volunteers who spend innumerable hours to make this an outstanding product.” He adds, “Each member of the Editorial Board has a true passion for patient care – Lab Tests Online would not be what it is today without them.” Linzer also points out that the members of the participating associations have played an important role in promoting the site to colleagues, patients, family, and friends. Lab Tests Online is pursuing plans to expand its global partnerships. In a recent announcement, Lab Tests Online has an agreement with the Association of Clinical Biochemists in the UK for the development of a sister site, LTO-UK, which is scheduled to launch this May. In addition, Lab Tests Online is exploring other opportunities to make the site available in Europe and elsewhere around the globe.
