The goal: facilitating the implementation of CLSI standards and guidelines as best practices in clinical laboratory testing and related healthcare services. The end result: improving patient care worldwide. Prior to launching this initiative we asked clinical laboratory and education program directors, “What can CLSI provide that would be of most value?” The top response was assistance for implementing CLSI consensus documents in real-world settings. Therefore, we have begun focusing on developing instructional tools and delivering effective educational communications to assist professionals in incorporating CLSI standards and guidelines into their daily operations. Examples of this educational focus include: the development of companion products, such as wall charts, toolkits, and quick guides to assist with implementation; electronic media, such as DVD and videos for “how to” sessions; simplified documents to advance the transition from CLSI documents to practice; and establishment of an educational resource library on the CLSI website. Another key goal is to partner with organizations that already have the required infrastructure, expertise, and reputation for delivering training through a variety of media. As a first step, we are partnering with the National Laboratory Training Network (NLTN) to offer a series of three web broadcasts in June and July. See details concerning the program and to register. Finally, we will continue to rely on our talented, committed volunteers to help with the development and dissemination of CLSI educational resources through speaking engagements and professional articles. Our investment in developing and delivering education programs will ensure that CLSI is delivering on our mission “to promote the use of our documents throughout the world.” Ideas are always welcomed.
