Executive Vice President's Message
Our Volunteers are Everywhere
I just returned from the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC) Annual Meeting and Clinical Lab Exposition in Chicago, Illinois, US, and wanted to share some observations:
- The meeting was well attended. There were approximately 20,000 people from every corner of the world. In fact, attendance was up sharply compared to last year’s meeting in Orlando, Florida.
- At least 12 sessions featured CLSI volunteers covering topics that were either directly based upon CLSI standards and guidelines or referenced them in detail. All of these sessions were held with either standing-room-only or very near capacity audiences.
- The traffic at the CLSI exhibit booth was phenomenal thanks in part to the interest generated by volunteers speaking on our behalf. Our jealous booth neighbors were asking what our secret was to attracting such a crowd.
- We held four very productive area committee and subcommittee meetings, as well as a host of other formal and informal discussions to exchange ideas with our expert volunteers.
- People were using our new name in hallway conversations consistently. The old NCCLS moniker seems to be fading away a little bit more with each passing month.
I wanted to use this forum to thank all of our volunteers for their role in helping to reinforce CLSI’s reputation as a world-class standards organization. If our volunteers are willing to work this hard on CLSI’s behalf to advance our mission and help to achieve our goals, you can be confident our staff will be there to support you in every way we can.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at any time.
Glen
