Executive Vice President Search Begins

As reported last year, John V. Bergen, Ph.D., NCCLS’s Executive Vice President, plans to retire at the end of the year.  When Dr. Bergen steps down, he will have served as NCCLS’s chief staff officer for 23 years.  The chief staff officer’s position title was recently changed from Executive Director to Executive Vice President through amendment of the NCCLS Bylaws.

A Search Committee has been formed to recruit NCCLS’s next chief staff officer, and Russell Reynolds Associates has been retained to support the committee through the search and selection process.  Dr. Thomas L. Hearn (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), NCCLS President, is Chairholder of the Search Committee.  Serving with Dr. Hearn are Dr. Donna M. Meyer (CHRISTUS Health), NCCLS Immediate Past President; Wayne Brinster (BD) and Dr. Mary Lou Gantzer (Dade Behring), both members of the Board of Directors; and James A. Thomas, President of ASTM International.

A comprehensive position specification summarizing the responsibilities and qualifications of the Executive Vice President is posted on the NCCLS website.  A copy of the position specification may also be obtained by contacting Megan Parker (mparker@russellreynolds.com) at Russell Reynolds Associates, 1701 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20006; 202.628.2150.  Interested candidates should submit applications to the attention of Ms. Parker.
