The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute requests volunteers to serve as subcommittee members for a new voluntary consensus project. The project description and specific qualifications needed are provided below:

Expanded Newborn Screening by Tandem Mass Spectrometry
Description:
With the recent advances in technology, newborn screening in clinical laboratories has expanded beyond the traditional testing to include additional treatable disorders. These include many of the acylcarnitine and amino acid disorders. This proposed guideline will provide laboratories performing expanded newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry with recommendations for specimen handling, specimen analysis, and data acquisition/examination. The audience for this document will be directors of laboratories, laboratorians from reference and state health laboratories performing expanded newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry, and manufacturers of the instruments, quality control materials, and reagents used in performing expanded newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry.
