Executive Vice President's Message
Why CLSI?
In talking with many of our volunteers, there appear to be at least four broad reasons why individuals and organizations highly value the development of CLSI standards and guidelines.
- The documents are needed to resolve a specific operational or scientific issue.
- The individual or organization is interested in creating new or updating existing consensus documents. This gives volunteers the opportunity to be “at the table” in the development of a clinical and laboratory best practice standard or guideline for the field.
- Users want to utilize documents within their organization for specific education purposes, such as preservice training or continued personal or professional development.
- Perhaps most frequently, our documents aid in regulatory accreditation and inspection preparedness and maintenance. Organizations know that by using the most current and universally respected standards and guidelines, they will be in the best possible position for improving quality and meeting or exceeding regulatory requirements.
Whether your interests fall in the broad categories above or are of a more specific nature, this month’s newsletter has information to meet your needs. So read on to learn about newly released documents, find out about how the College of American Pathologists (CAP) uses CLSI references in its inspection checklists, or enjoy an interview with long-time volunteer, Dr. Donald “Joe” Boone.
I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter and as always, please feel free to e-mail me at gfine@clsi.org.
