CLSI Creates New Standard to Improve Newborn Screening Process

The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) recently published the "Blood Collection on Filter Paper for Newborn Screening Programs; Approved Standard - Fifth Edition (LA4-A5)" to improve specimen and filter paper collection as well as blood transfer to filter paper. The document also provides uniform collection techniques for improved specimen collection for newborn screenings and is expected to greatly affect the improvement efforts of the national newborn screening community.
