CLSI and the Fat Part of the Curve

People use CLSI standards and guidelines as excellent source materials to implement best practices and meet regulatory requirements. One thing requested regularly in surveys and focus groups is simplified versions of some of our most popular documents in order to ease in their implementation and reach a wider audience. For example, one customer stated, “We enjoy receiving the CLSI documents, but please consider making them more readily usable for the fat part of the bell-shaped user’s curve.” This respondent makes a great point.

To meet those needs, we have expanded our products by offering easy-to-use reference tools in Quality Systems, Specimen Collection, and Hematology. Quality Systems companion products include the recently released The Key to Quality and a series of 12 Quality System Essentials Key to Quality Checklists. In Specimen Collection, we have 10 different laminated specimen collection Quick Guides. The Common Cells in Body Fluids Wallchart is a new Hematology companion product to CLSI standard and guidelines. More about these new products is described in this issue of eNews or find out more by going to www.clsi.org and click on “Shop.”

These new products, as well as others in the coming months, are not intended to generate a new way of doing business at CLSI, nor circumvent our consensus process for standards development; but instead are intended to optimize the value of the information already contained in these well-established standards and guidelines. Please check out these new products as we reach out to assist more laboratorians in implementing our standards and guidelines. Suggestions for other CLSI companion products that assist in this regard are always welcomed.
