Immunoassay Interference by Endogenous Antibodies (I/LA30-P); Implementation Guide of POCT1 for Healthcare Providers (POCT2-P)

CLSI Publishes New Guideline for Identification and Potential Elimination of Immunoassay Interference Caused by Antibodies
Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA—April 2007— Because of their sensitivity and specificity, immunoassays are important diagnostic tools allowing measurement of a wide variety of analytes. Immunoassays, however, are subject to a number of interferences, including those caused by circulating endogenous antibodies. These circulating endogenous antibodies can cause falsely increased or decreased results or may lead to misinterpretation of results.

Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly NCCLS) has recently published a new document, Immunoassay Interference by Endogenous Antibodies; Proposed Guideline (I/LA30-P), which presents information on the origin, nature, and prevalence of circulating endogenous antibodies that cause interference with immunoassay results. The guideline describes methods for identification and potential elimination of immunoassay interference caused by antibodies in patient specimens.

CLSI Publishes New Implementation Guide of POCT1 for Healthcare Providers
Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA—April 2007—Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly NCCLS) has recently published a new document, Implementation Guide of POCT1 for Healthcare Providers; Proposed Guideline (POCT2-P), which identifies and describes the particular features of a connectivity-compliant device for healthcare providers or end-users responsible for instrumented point-of-care testing (POCT). With key terms identified, this guideline gives clear and concise information for users to address questions with the vendor of a compliant device; allows providers to acquire the device with a connectivity solution best suited to their needs; and includes practical advice on how to permit error-free point-of-care testing and result reporting along with optimal data capture for quality assurance purposes.
