Executive Vice President's Message
From Content Development to Content Delivery
Historically, CLSI has earned an excellent reputation as a developer of voluntary consensus standards covering a large number of important issues and addressing current aspects of clinical and laboratory testing. As an organization, we have dedicated fewer resources to coordinating and maximizing the delivery of our content to audiences that would most benefit. This statement is not meant to diminish the outstanding and tireless efforts of our partner organizations and volunteers; rather, it is intended to provide greater support for their efforts in the future. As our mission states, CLSI “develops best practices in clinical and laboratory testing and promotes their use throughout the world, using a consensus-driven process that balances the viewpoints of industry, government, and the healthcare professions.”
With that in mind, our Board of Directors has recently chartered a Board-level Education Committee. Its key purpose is to explore options for expanding the delivery of our standards and guidelines to improve public health and patient care.
The Education Committee’s recent inaugural meeting made it apparent that we have no shortage of talented people and excellent ideas. I would like to extend a personal thank you to the committee members:
• Susan Blonshine, RRT, RPFT, FAARC, Tech-Ed, Co-Chair
• Valerie Ng, PhD, MD, Alameda County Medical Center, Co-Chair
• Greg Cooper, CLS, MHA, Bio-Rad
• Kathy Doig, PhD, Michigan State University
• Stacy Howard, MT(ASCP), CDC
• Jennifer McGeary, MT(ASCP), MSHA, CLSI Staff
• Christina Mwangi, MD, CDC – Tanzania
• Lois Schmidt, DA, Vice Chair, CLSI Staff
The committee identified 12 key action items to improve our ability to “get the word out” to those who can most benefit from CLSI documents. Stay tuned as we begin to implement these ideas.
As always, we welcome your suggestions for how we can continually improve what we do for you.
Glen
