New Approved CLSI Document Addresses Remote Access to Diagnostic Devices via the Internet 
Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA—April 2006—Remote access to laboratory instrument systems and in vitro medical devices has become essential to maximizing equipment uptime.  Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly NCCLS) has recently published an approved-level document titled Remote Access to Clinical Laboratory Diagnostic Devices via the Internet; Approved Standard (AUTO9-A), which provides a standard communication protocol for instrument system vendors, device manufacturers, and hospital administrators.

New Edition of CLSI’s Laboratory Policy, Process, and Procedure Document
Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA—April 2006—A document management process is vital for ensuring that staff access and use only the most current versions of documents, and that everyone is following the same process sequence and procedure instructions. In so doing, performance variations that can affect the quality of laboratory services and results are greatly reduced or actually eliminated.

Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly NCCLS) document Laboratory Documents:  Development and Control; Approved Guideline—Fifth Edition (GP2-A5) presents the important components of writing and managing documents for the clinical laboratory and describes what laboratories need to do to meet published regulations and accreditation requirements and international standards. This edition has been renamed and reorganized (previous editions were titled Clinical Laboratory Technical Procedure Manuals and focused on essential elements to include in laboratory examination procedures).

New Edition of CLSI’s Quality Assurance of Laboratory Tests for Autoantibodies to Nuclear Antigens (ANA) Document
Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA—April 2006—Early diagnosis and classification of systemic rheumatic diseases is of utmost importance to guide therapeutic decisions.  Over the past decade, advances have been made in characterizing autoantigens, identifying biomarkers, and developing detection methods with greater specificity. Identification of autoantibodies has proven to be useful in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of several systemic rheumatic diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus, mixed dermatomyositis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
