Executive Vice President's Message
You Have Spoken.

In the interest of improving our processes in meeting customer needs, this September, we asked your opinion on three topics:  our name change from NCCLS to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI); our membership categories; and our electronic products.  As you will read in this issue, you have spoken with loud and diverse voices—exactly as we had hoped.  CLSI received an astonishing 30% response rate—over 600 completed surveys.  This in itself is an important finding, evidencing your tremendous support of our organization, and your interest in its future.

I learned long ago that if you ask questions, you must be prepared to act on the answers.  A major undertaking of the CLSI staff over the next several months will be to synthesize these data, and convert them to results.  Some conclusions are immediately discernable:  you want simplified membership categories, and an up-to-date, searchable electronic database with proposed- as well as approved-level documents.  We are pleased to have discovered that our new name has rapidly gained the familiarity and approval of respondents worldwide.

As the volunteers, members, and interested parties of CLSI, your contributions enable the staff to deliver products, services, and support in the ways that meet your needs.  Stay tuned over the coming months as we report your feedback and its impact in effecting change.

Thanks for speaking up—and please continue to do so.  As always, feel free to e-mail me anytime at gfine@clsi.org

Glen
