Terminology Focus
CLSI Term Sources
Where do terms used in CLSI documents come from?
It is a firm policy of CLSI to use internationally harmonized terms wherever possible. Accordingly, CLSI has chosen the following priority for terms:
- VIM (1993) International Vocabulary of Basic and General Terms in Metrology. A new draft version of VIM was released for comment in April 2004. It remains under review, and so is not yet an approved source of terms and definitions for CLSI.
- ISO terms and definitions.
- CEN terms and definitions.
- Other internationally accepted terminology standards.
- Previous CLSI usage. Most terms and definitions are considered either conventional usage or are defined specifically for a particular document. Some terms are borrowed from other CLSI documents in common use. The goal is to be as consistent and harmonized as possible across all CLSI disciplines.
