Glucose Monitoring in Settings Without Laboratory Support (AST4-A2)

Latest Recommendations for Glucose Monitoring in Settings Without Laboratory Support (AST4-A2) available in May from Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly NCCLS)

An increasing amount of blood glucose tests are conducted outside the laboratory, in chaotic, high-pressure hospital environments, where accuracy and exigency are at constant odds.  Improper procedures for using blood glucose meters produce inaccurate results, putting the patient at risk.  AST4-A2 provides recommendations in a straightforward Q-and-A format, designed for easy use in workplaces where time and results are in high demand.  Included are administrative structure, operator authorization, test system selection, test procedure, and quality assurance, as well as samples of a written evaluation and quality control logs.

Our procedures have been designed to ensure that consensus has been achieved before a standard or guideline is published at the approved level.  This means that each document has been thoroughly reviewed by all participants involved in the consensus process:  the authoring subcommittee, the overseeing area committee, the Board of Directors, and an at-large group of voluntary participants from the medical-testing community.

You may automatically receive or select approved-level documents as a benefit of membership.  Find out more about joining CLSI:  view membership options and benefits. [ return to top ]
