Sweat Testing: Sample Collection and Quantitative Analysis (C34-A2 -- Reaffirmation)
C34-A2—Sweat Testing: Sample Collection and Quantitative Analysis; Approved Guideline—Second Edition (Reaffirmation)
The "sweat test," a quantitative measurement of chloride in sweat, is used to confirm the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis, but has been reported to have uncacceptably high false-positive and false-negative rates. These rates (up to 15% false-positive and 12% false-negative) are attributable to inaccurate methodology, technical error, and patient physiology. This document provides much-needed comprehensive guidelines addressing the collection of sweat and the quantitative measurement of electrolytes in sweat are needed.
The deadline for the completed ballot for C34-A2 to be received int he CLSI Offices is 5 July 2005.
Reaffirmation of a CLSI document is appropriate when the area committee determines that neither comments received nor any other substantive reasons support changes. As with other candidate-for-advancement documents, only delegates from Active and Associate Active member organizations may vote, using a ballot found on CLSI Forums.

Under our Administrative Procedures, a CLSI document approved by the area committee at the first level of the consensus process is submitted to delegates as a “candidate-for-advancement” consensus document. This begins the voting and approval period by the delegates.
Remember that we welcome and encourage comments from our voting members at each publication stage. Comments on a candidate-for-advancement consensus document will be addressed by the committee prior to advancement. In each document edition, a summary of comments on the prior edition is included, along with committee responses.
