CLSI document, Evaluation of Matrix Effects; Approved Guideline—Second Edition (EP14-A2), can be used by laboratorians performing quantitative tests for a wide variety of analytes across various disciplines. Protocols are provided to evaluate matrix effects in processed samples that are used as standards, calibrators, controls, and external quality assessment (EQA)/proficiency (PT) materials.

Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly NCCLS) Announces Availability of New Guideline: Microwave Device Use in the Histology Laboratory

CLSI document, Microwave Device Use in the Histology Laboratory; Approved Guideline (GP28-A), provides recommendations for quality assurance and safety procedures for microwave equipment use, and provides a means to understand and troubleshoot conditions that contribute to variability in microwave-accelerated procedures in human clinical, veterinary, and research histopathology laboratories.

CLSI document, Pulse Oximetry; Approved Guideline (HS3-A), provides recommendations for the use of pulse oximeters according to the path of workflow: decisions which need to be made before initiating monitoring, concerns during monitoring, interpretation of the data, and information management. This document highlights the considerations, which should accompany use of these instruments, including a summary of the limitations of existing technology.
